Devil Defeated

Devil Defeated Genesis 1:28 Mankind had dominion over all the created world. Psalms 8:3-9 Psalms looks back to Genesis and forward to Christ. Spiritual Blessings

Spiritual Blessings

Spiritual Blessings Exodus 23:20-33; Deuteronomy 28:1-14 The old covenant promises pertained to physical and material blessings. Exaltation - being lifted up high, health, fertility, prosperity, victory, inheriting land, and God's favor. The other significant promise was that God would provide a sacrifice for man's reconciliation. The promises were not regarding salvation, righteousness, or eternal life. Matthew 5:17 and 18 At Calvary, Jesus ended the old covenant and began the new covenant. Matthew 26:26-29 The new covenant began when he died and will be fulfilled when he returns. Hebrews 8:5 and 6 Better covenant established upon better promises. Verse 8 The book of Hebrews is written specifically to believers who are descendants of Israel and not to the Gentiles. The new covenant realities also belong to the Gentiles (Galatians 3:6-9, 29; Ephesians 2:11-18). Verses 9-13 New covenant promises; far superior to old. Ephesians 1:1 Based upon Hebrew Scriptures, Christ is Messiah which means Anointed, Prophet, High Priest, King. Verse 3 Spiritual contrast to natural or physical. The old covenant - the blessings were material or physical. In the new covenant the blessings are spiritual, some of which follow in Ephesians. Verse 4 Foundation of the world. Genesis 1:1, first; II Peter 3:7, second; Revelations, third. We are called before the second and third. We are enabled to live holy and without blame before Him in love as part of the spiritual blessings. Verse 14 What we have now is part of the whole that will be ours when Christ returns. Ephesians 2:1-7 Ages to come He will show the exceeding riches of His grace.
The Resurrection Foretold

The Resurrection Foretold

The Resurrection Foretold I Corinthians 15:6 Over 500 people were eyewitnesses of his resurrection. The Scriptures themselves provide compelling evidence of the resurrected Christ. Luke 18:31-33; I Corinthians 15:3 & 4; Acts 26:22-23; Luke 24:13-32 There are Old Testament prophecies and types, which clearly foretell not only the suffering and death of the Messiah, but also that he would be raised from the dead. Example: Jonah (Jonah 1:17; 2:1ff; Matthew 12:40). Abraham -- Foundation for faith Genesis 13:15; 15:5-8; 17:5-20; (Romans 4:17-24); Genesis 22:1-18; (Hebrews 11:17-19) Hebrews 11:19 (NIV) Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead, and figuratively speaking, he did receive Isaac back from death. Abraham anticipated and believed in the death and resurrection of the promised Messiah. The God of Abraham will bring to pass what he had promised, and it will be fulfilled in the resurrection. Exodus 3:6; Matthew 22:23-32; Luke 20:27-38; Luke 1:54 and 55; 72 and 73; John 8:51-58. The First Fruits offering During the Feast of Unleavened bread there were two significant offerings -- the Passover Lamb and the First Fruits offering. Jesus was the Passover lamb of God who was sacrificed for us (I Cor 5:7). The second offering was the first fruits offering. (Leviticus 23:10-12). It signified the powerful strong hand of the Lord's deliverance (Exodus 13:1ff -- verses 3, 9, 14, 16). Jesus was the firstborn from the dead, and offered himself as this offering (John 20:17). He was the first fruits from the dead. Others will follow. I Corinthians 15:20-23; Colossians 1:18; Acts 26:23; Revelation 1:5; Hebrews 12:23. The Psalms David and other psalmists spoke prophetically about the resurrection from the dead. Psalms 49:6-15; Psalms 16:9 and 10. The Prophet Isaiah Isaiah the prophet also spoke regarding the resurrection from the dead. Isaiah 53:8-11 He shall see his seed He shall prolong his days Isaiah 53:11a (NIV) After the suffering of his soul, he will see the light of life, Matthew 27:62-66; 28:1-6 The resurrection fulfilled!!!
Structure of the Millennial Kingdom

Structure of the Millennial Kingdom

The Structure and Nature of Millennial Rule Central to the Millennial Kingdom is the man that will rule -- the Messiah. Jesus of Nazareth is the Messiah, the Christ of the seed of David. He will return to earth from heaven and begin to rule as King over all the earth as promised to David. He is "the Branch" that would grow out of the root of Jesse, the King & High Priest. Isaiah 11:1,10; Jeremiah 23:5-8; 33:14-17; Zechariah 3:8+9; 6:12+13 He is the "Lord's arm" that shall rule for God. Isaiah 40:9-11; 52:7-15; 53:1+2; Psalms 98:1-9 He is the "horn of David" that will bud and be exalted, whose crown will flourish. Perspective

Perspective

Perspective Psalms 19:1-4 The heavens communicate clearly that everyone in the world (notwithstanding education, nationality, gender, or language) can comprehend His majesty. Isaiah 40:12 The Atlantic Ocean is 31,830,000 square miles. It has an average depth of 10,925 feet and a maximum depth of 27,493 feet. How big is God! Fear or reverence is the right response to Almighty God. The more extensive our comprehension of God's almightyness, the greater our capacity for reverence of Him. As our perspective of God's omnipotence grows so does our reverence, humility, and faith. Psalms 34:3-9 God's desire is to provide for those who fear Him. Psalms 33:18 His eye is on those who fear. Psalms 31:19 His goodness is abundant for those who fear. Psalms 103:11 His mercy is great. Psalms 115:11 He is our help and shield. Psalms 145:19 He will fulfill the desire of them that fear Him. Proverbs 9:10 and 11; 19:23; 22:4 The fear of the Lord.
Godly Attitude of Giving

Godly Attitude of Giving

Godly Attitude of Giving Genesis 14:17-24 The attitude of the giver was one of sincere gratitude, honor, respect and love. Deuteronomy 14:22 and 23 The tither trusts God Proverbs 3:5-10 Giving honors God Malachi 3:10-12 Tithes and offerings are the opposite of robbing God. Matthew 23:23 Tithing was never intended to be a religious ritual done without thought and believing, nor was it intended to be a substitute for doing the rest of God's Word. Mark 12:41-44 Heart, not amount, is the concern. Acts 4:31-5:11 The comparison of that which is right and that which is not. II Corinthians 8:1-11 God chose to use the word "grace" for man's giving to emphasize the attitude behind the giving. II Corinthians 9:5-8 The word "covetousness" in the context of this verse is contrasted with a blessed, generous gift, and implies giving out of compulsion, grudgingly, because of the giver's greediness.
A Heart for God

A Heart for God

A Heart for God Jeremiah 17:9 Because of Adam's disobedience in the Garden of Eden, mankind's heart became deceitful and extremely wicked. The NIV describes man's heart as "beyond cure" while the Amplified Version says that man's heart is "exceedingly perverse and corrupt and severely, mortally sick." God's original desire for a heartfelt intimacy with man was frustrated by Adam's sin. Romans 2:28 and 29 Receiving the gift of holy spirit is what heals and purifies and restores life to a terminally ill heart. This is real, genuine circumcision enabling man to have a true, intimate relationship with God. I Peter 1:13-16 "Holy" means separated from the common or profane. Holiness is now the standard for our lifestyles. II Peter 1:3 and 4 Partake or share in God's holy nature. Holiness is what takes us into God's presence. Exodus 33:11-16 Moses wanted God's presence. This was more important than the location. Philippians 2:5-16 Humility and self-abasement were hallmarks of Christ's life. Philippians 3:4-14 II Corinthians 5:14 and 15 Let us resolve to live for him, to serve from the heart in response to his love for us. Jeremiah 9:23 and 24 Let our glory be in having an intimate relationship with God and in knowing that He alone is God.
Offense

Offense

Offense Matthew 13:18-23 The two major ways the devil steals the Word from those who heard: offense, or choke. I Samuel 18:20 and 21 Greek word skandalon: the trigger of a trap on which the bait is placed which, when touched by the animal, springs shut causing entrapment. Psalms 35:11-18 Our family, friends, fellowbelievers, and ministers may offend. Matthew 16:23 Satan's method to cause you to sin. Matthew 18:1-6; 24:10-12 Offenses will always be here. A) What should we do if someone offends us? Matthew 18:15-18 Go to the person and do what is necessary. Luke 17:1-4 Forgive. Ephesians 6:10-17 Realize that it is a spiritual warfare. B) Do not offend others. Proverbs 18:19 Always conduct yourself in a manner that does not offend a brother. Romans 14:20 and 21; I Corinthians 8:13; II Corinthians 6:3 Give no offense. C) If you offend a brother, do what is necessary to resolve. Matthew 5:21-24 Go to him. Galatians 6:1-3 If a brother is offended then they are in the midst of a trap. II Timothy 2:24-26 Have the right attitude.
Repent/Change

Repent/Change

Repent / Change Matthew 3:1-12 The Kingdom of God is near, therefore repent. We are to bear fruit in keeping with repentance. Matthew 4:17 Jesus said, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Change. Acts 2:37-39 Repent and be totally immersed in Jesus Christ. Acts 3:16-23 The kingdom is coming, so change now. Luke 15:1-10 God rejoices when someone repents. God is helping men to repent. Colossians 1:13 and 14 When we accept Christ as Lord there is a supernatural change in our life. Changes that must be made to cause change: 1. Psalms 1:1-6 Change what you feed on. Take heed to what you hear (Mark 4:24). Study the Word of God. 2. Philippians 4:4-9 Pray and control your thinking (II Corinthians 10:3-5). 3. I Corinthians 6:14-18 Stop being unequally yoked (Leviticus 26:1ff). 4. Matthew 5:28-30; 18:7-9 We cannot accept change without change. Change what we look at, what we do, where we go. 5. Matthew 28:19 and 20 Get help from another believer.
Hope for a World in Need

Hope for a World in Need

Hope for a World in Need The scriptures describe three distinct ages regarding our planet. The old world that existed prior to Noah's flood. The current earth that we dwell on today. The new heaven and earth that is yet to come. Psalm 24:1 The earth belongs to God. Isaiah 45:5-12; 17-23 God is God! We are not to contend with our maker. Isaiah 46:9-10 God declares the end from the beginning. Genesis 1:31; 2:4-6; Isaiah 45:18 God created a world that was perfect. However, due to the sin of man, the earth upon which mankind lives suffered the judgment of God. Genesis 3:17-18 The ground became cursed Genesis 6:11-13 The flood brought catastrophic changes to the world. Genesis 7:11 The fountains of the great deep were broken up and the windows of heaven were opened. Genesis 7:19-20 - Imagine the devastation! Romans 8:20-22 We still suffer the ramifications of this judgment today Matthew 24:3, 6-8 Sorrows = birth pangs. We are in the last days. II Peter 2:5 -- The world before the flood was the "old world". That world is gone. II Peter 3:5-7 The old world was destroyed by water. II Peter 3:8-9 Not that anyone should perish, but that all men would repent. II Peter 3:10-12 The current world will be destroyed by fire. The book of Revelation provides more details regarding the coming destruction. Rev 6:12-14; 8:7; 8:8-9; 8:10; 9:18; 11:13;16:17 God has foretold us the things that will happen to the earth. It is absolute. The earth itself bares witness of this truth, and all the elements are in place, waiting for the day of the Lord. But this is not the end. II Peter 3:13 -- There is a promise of a new heaven and a new earth! Act 3:19-21 -- There will be a restoration of all things Matthew 19:28 -- This time period is called the "regeneration" All creation yearns for the coming day of Christ! I Thessalonians 4:13-18; 5:1-11 We have a certain hope and a firm consolation in a sea of speculation. Let us repent of evil in our lives and let us with a resolute conviction live for God and serve him with godly fear.
Birth of Christianity

Birth of Christianity

The Birth of Christianity Acts 1:1 First account is in the book of Luke, which ends with the ascension. Luke 24:40-53. The book of Acts begins with the ascension. Verse 5 The promise of the Father is to be baptized with the holy spirit. Luke 24 said it was to be clothed with power from on high. Verse 7 God has the time of His Kingdom fixed by His own authority. No man knows the times or epochs. Matthew 24:36; Mark 13:32; Luke 21:24; Acts 17:26; Ephesians 1:10; I Thessalonians 5:1 and 2. Epoch - an event or time marked by an event that begins a new period. Verse 8 Rather than being overly concerned about when, focus on your responsibility to be witnesses. Acts 2:1 The place was the temple Verse 4 Filled with holy spirit means being overwhelmed or powered with the spirit. Completely influenced, demanding full attention. Acts 1:5 Baptized with the holy spirit = to be filled with the holy spirit. Water baptism was always a complete immersion. Acts 2:11 Speaking in tongues is speaking the mighty deeds of God. KJV - the wonderful works of God. Verse 17 Pentecost was the beginning of the Christian Church and the beginning of "the last days." Verse 20 When these things happen, the "last days" will end. Verse 34 David is not in heaven, Jesus is in heaven. Verse 35 Quoted from Psalm 110 which explicitly refers to Christ. Jesus made this plain in Matthew 27:42-45 and his apostles in Acts 2:34; I Corinthians 15:25; Hebrews 1:13; 10:12 and 13. Joshua 10:24 Genesis 3:15 prophecy Revelation 20:1-10 fulfilled Ephesians 1:20-22; Philippians 2:9-11 Acts 2:39 Repent - Luke 13:1-5
Be Yoked

Be Yoked

Be Yoked Luke 2:8-20 Great rejoicing. Yet weary and heavy burdened; his birth did not change the world. Matthew 11:25-30 "Weary" - worn with exertion, suffering, tired, fatigued, discontented or vexed by continued endurance of something disagreeable resulting in fatigue and boredom. "Burden" - oppressed, weighed down John 3:10-21 John 6:32-41 Bread of life John 8:12 Light of life John 10:1-10 Door to sheepfold Verses 11-18 Good Shepherd John 11:25 and 26 The resurrection and the life John 14:6 The way, and the truth, and the life John 15:1-11 The true vine Matthew 11:25-30 Get yoked
The Word

The Word

The Word John 1:1-3 Places powerful emphasis on the Word. By the Word God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1-5 The spirit and the Word are often seen together in the Scriptures. Verses 6, 9, 11, 14, 20, 24 By God's Word He created the world. The Word was obviously with God in the beginning. The Scriptures are called "the Word of God." The Word of God is living and powerful (Hebrews 4:12)! John 1:3-5 "Comprehended it" - overpowered it. A true statement literally in Genesis 1 and metaphorically throughout history. Verses 6-13 Throughout history those who believed on him could become the sons of God, not of blood by mans will. Verses 14-18 The Word was made flesh when Jesus the Christ was born. John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word" - was Jesus with God in the beginning? By notion not literally because he was born. John 3:32-34 "He whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God...." The things that Jesus said were God's words. The spirit and the Word. John 4:34 The things that Jesus did were God's will and work. John 5:18-30 The Son did the Father's will. Jesus understood who he was and explained: he is the Son, God is the Father. Verse 30 He always did the will of the Father. So when you heard him - you heard the Father; when you saw him - you saw the Father. Not because Jesus is God but the obedient Son. John 6:38-40 Jesus did not do his own will rather God's will. Two separate wills because two separate beings. John 7:14-16 Always gave God credit. John 8:28 and 29, 38, 42 God sent Jesus to speak and do on His behalf. John 10:18, 25, 32, 37; 12:44, 49 and 50; 14:10, 24, 31 The power Jesus had was given of the Father. John 17:4, 7 and 8, 14 Jesus speaking to God. Not my will but Thine be done! John 14:12-26 The holy spirit enables us to do the works of Christ and to know the words of Christ which are the works and words of God. Does this make us Christ?
Simple Trust

Simple Trust

Simple Trust Trust -- a firm belief or confidence in the honesty, integrity, ability, justice, reliability, etc. of another. Proverbs 3:1-5 Trust in the Lord With all thine heart. Trust emanates from the heart. All of it! Not just part of it. Deut 4:9 Keep your soul diligently so that the commandments of God do not depart from your heart. Deut 8:10-17 -- Don't forget God! Lean not unto thine own understanding. Lean means to rest in, to rely upon. Do not rely on your own understanding. Knowledge and understanding does not start with you Job 38:36; Prov 9:10 True wisdom and understanding comes from God, and fear of the Lord must come first. I Cor 8:2; Gal 6:3; Prov 26:12 Do not get out of bounds and think too highly of yourself. Proverbs 3:6 In all thy ways acknowledge him. Very few people are willing to trust God in all their ways. Most rely on their own intellect, their own knowledge, their own experience, rather than on God himself. Man needs God to direct his way. Jeremiah 10:23. Proverbs 3:7 Be not wise in thine own eyes. Romans 12:16 Fear the Lord. Proverbs 14:26-27 Depart from evil. Job 28:28; Ecclesiastes 12:13 Proverbs 3:8 It will be healing to your body and refreshment to your bones (NASB). Trusting God is healing. Don't be deceived to think that anyone outside of God can heal. Proverbs 3:9-10 Honor the Lord with thy substance and with the first fruits of all thine increase. Trust God with your finances. Tithing is not a law to us today, but it is a fundamental practice in trusting God and committing your life to His care. Genesis 28:10-22 Jacob put his trust in God. Examples of men who lost trust in God. Solomon I Kings 3:5-14 -- Solomon relied on God in the beginning. He knew he couldn't do it on his own. I Kings 4:29-34 -- Solomon had an abundance of knowledge I Kings 11:1-4 -- Solomon no longer put his trust in God. His heart was no longer wholly devoted to God. Asa II Chronicles 14:9-15; 15:1ff -- Asa relied on God. His trust was in the Lord. God delivered him. II Chronicles 16:1ff -- Asa no longer trusted God. Jeremiah 9:23-24 Let us not put our trust in anything but the Lord
Focus and Faith

Focus and Faith

WE HAVE FAITH Matthew 6:16-24 "Mammon" is wealth and is personified as an object of worship. Verse 33 Seek God's kingdom and righteousness and have faith that He will care for you. Verse 34 Each day has enough trouble of its own. Matthew 8:23-27 Jesus was with them, therefore they need not fear. Matthew 28:19 and 20; John 14:18-27 Matthew 14:22-33 We can walk on water if we keep our eyes upon him. Matthew 16:1-12 Human reasoning is of little faith Matthew 8:5-13 Great faith reasons that Christ is Lord over all Matthew 9:1-8 Their faith was obvious because of their aggressive action. Matthew 9:18-22 Convinced within herself Matthew 15:21-28 She had great faith Matthew 17:14-21 To operate the power of God takes faith. Matthew 21:17-22 We have been given permission to have faith
Compassion

Compassion

Compassion A) Be Like God Ephesians 5:1 We are to be imitators of God in the same manner as Jesus. God is merciful, gracious, longsuffering, abundant in goodness, abundant in truth, forgiving Colossians 3:12-17 "Bowels of mercy" is a heart of compassion. A Christ centered life is one that cares for others. Matthew 5:7 We are commanded to be compassionate like Christ. B) Compassion Looks and Acts Luke 7:11-17 His heart went out to her. In the midst of the sea of people, Jesus focused on the one with need. Jesus had both tenderness and power. Matthew 9:36 Seeing and compassion preceded the miracle. Mark 10:17-22 Jesus beheld the man. He saw beyond the obvious. Luke 10:32 and 33 The Samaritan sees, has compassion, and acts. The priest and the Levite see a problem, but they are too distracted, preoccupied, or maybe agenda-driven to get involved. They had neither the time nor the energy to be bothered by someone's troubles. Loving means losing control of our schedule, our money, and our time. When we love, we cease to be the master and become a servant. C) Judging Blocks Compassion John 9:1-7 The disciples automatically judged the man for his blindness. Jesus lowered himself in order to care, while the disciples elevated themselves in order to judge. Compassion affects us. Maybe that is why we judge so quickly, it keeps us from being infected by other people's problems Verses 35-39 Who was blind? John 12:47 "I did not come to judge the world, but to save it." Quickness to correct people can be a form of judging. Matthew 9:10 -13 Quoted from Hosea 6:6. The people were doing the actions (the sacrifices) but without faith or compassion. D) Self-Righteousness Blocks compassion Luke 7:36-39 Simon assumed that Jesus had failed to read this woman correctly. Appearance was all important to the Pharisees, but Jesus completely lacked concern for appearances. Luke 7:40-47 Jesus wanted Simon to stop judging and start looking. Simon's rigid view of people placed them in a category, and kept them there. Verses 48-50 Simon was crippled because he did not see his own proud, self-righteous heart. Luke 18:9-14 Legalism takes bits and pieces of good things and uses them as weapons. Legalism flows from, and feeds on, self-righteousness. It does not look because it has figured everything out ahead of time. E) Compassion is Required Matthew 25:31-46 We will be judged for our compassion or lack thereof. Ephesians 2:1-10 God wants us to really care about other people, never forgetting His care for us. WHO ARE YOU? Merciful Hard-hearted Gracious Expect something in return Longsuffering Impatient Abundant in goodness Good intermittently Abundant in truth Self-willed Forgiving Bitter, indictive, spiteful
The Guarantee

The Guarantee

THE GUARANTEE II Corinthians 5:5 "Earnest" is translated pledge in the NASB Ephesians 1:10-14 In a bargain between two parties a partial payment was given which was the guarantee, or assurance, that full payment would be made. Ephesians 1:13 "Seal" 4:30; II Corinthians 1:21 and 22 A seal is impressed upon letters or books for the sake of privacy and security (ie bottle of medicine). A seal is a guarantee of something's genuineness. Romans 4:11 The circumcision was the seal of the promise that God made that was yet to be fulfilled. It was God's guarantee that He would complete His promise. II Corinthians 5:10 Judgment seat of Christ. John 5:22-30; Romans 14:10; Matthew 25:31-46 II Corinthians 5:11 In view of the promise of a new resurrected life, the earnest of the spirit, the judgment seat of Christ, Paul was motivated to persuade men. Verse 14 "The love of Christ" presses or forces us, controls us Verse 17 We have a new life, a part of which is the service of reconciliation. Verse 20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ.
Eternal Weight of Glory

Eternal Weight of Glory

ETERNAL WEIGHT OF GLORY II Corinthians 4:16-5:11 II Corinthians 4:16 Though our physical body is wasting away the inward is renewed. The inward is our heart and life (Ephesians 3:14-19). Verse 18 Paul did not lose heart or become discouraged because he determined to focus his mind (Romans 8:15-17). Outward Inward perishing renewed daily light affliction weight of glory momentary eternal seen not seen temporal eternal II Corinthians 5:1 Tabernacle is referring to the human body (II Peter 1:13). A tabernacle or tent is a temporary dwelling place. "Dissolved" means destroyed, demolished -- died. Romans 8:18-24 I Corinthians 15:42-44 Resurrection of the dead sown raised corruption incorruption dishonour glory weakness power natural spiritual I Corinthians 15:50-54 The change is a mystery. Jesus is the firstfruits. II Corinthians 5:2 Groan due to a strong desire for what God has promised rather than a preoccupation with afflictions. Verse 3 A disembodied soul which is a gnostic idea of salvation from Plato not God. Verse 4 Paul does not seek to escape into a permanent disembodied state. He wants the resurrection and the new body and life. Romans 8:23 Redemption of the body. Philippians 3:21 transformation of his body to be like Christ's glorious body. II Corinthians 5:5 "Earnest" - an assurance or token of something to come. A deposit made by the buyer to the seller as a guarantee that the full amount will be paid at the proper time. Ephesians 1:13 and 14 Earnest of our inheritance. Hebrews 9:10-2; 10:16-18; Jeremiah 31:31-34; 32:37-41 John 14:16 and 17, 26; 16:13-15; 17:3 The spirit is the earnest. II Corinthians 1:22; Ephesians 1:13; Romans 4:11 The circumcision was God's seal to Abraham that he would absolutely fulfill His covenant. The spirit is God's seal to us that He will absolutely fulfill the new covenant. The seal was not a guarantee that Abraham or his descendants would fulfill their responsibility! II Corinthians 5:6 and 7 This suggests that to be at home in the body (alive today in these temporary bodies) means that God is not accessible to our sight and in that sense we are away from the Lord. Our accessibility is only by faith. II Corinthians 4:6 Always confident; verse 8 - we are confident; II Corinthians 5:1 and 16. Verse 9 Wherefore we labour - if the earnest absolutely ensured we would enter the Kingdom, the "wherefore" would not be so significant. Verse 10 Judgment seat (Romans 14:10) II Corinthians 5:11-7:4 The ministry of reconciliation. Paul is not afraid but has a reverential awe.

Faith And Hope

Faith And Hope

Faith And Hope In the Scriptures, faith and hope are vital characteristics in the life of a disciple of Christ. Both traits are necessary in the walk of a believer. We conduct our life in a certain manner today because we truly believe that what God has promised about the future will absolutely come to pass. Hebrews 11:1 Faith is "Substance of things hoped for" Substance=hupostasis=foundation, assurance, surety, confidence "The evidence of things not seen" Evidence=a proof, that by which a thing is proved or tested Romans 8:18-25 Hope that is seen is not hope. I Corinthians 15:12-20 If there is no resurrection of the dead we have no hope for the future life that has been promised and our faith is vain. II Timothy 3:14-15 The hope and faith we have is not "blind faith," it is based upon belief in the absolute authority of the Scriptures. I Peter 1:3-9 Hebrews 10:23 "Faith" should be "hope." Hebrews 10:32-39 The just shall live by faith Hebrews 11:1-3 Through faith we understand the worlds were made by the Word of God Hebrews 11:4-7 Noah "being warned of God of things not seen as yet" Hebrews 11:8-10 Abraham lived in a tent his entire life Hebrews 11:11-19 Abraham offered Isaac because he had faith in the resurrection Hebrews 11:20-27 Moses made a hard choice based on faith Hebrews 11:28-35a Some miraculous things occurred because of faith Hebrews 11:35b-38 Faith is endurance Hebrews 11:39-40 Hebrews 11:39-40 (The New English Bible) These also, one and all, are commemorated for their faith; and yet they did not enter upon the promised inheritance, because, with us in mind, God had made a better plan, that only in company with us should they reach their perfection. Hebrews 12:1-3 Because of the hope, Jesus Christ had faith.

Verse 7 How sweet life becomes when confession is made. Verses 8-11 God teaches those who are mournful and meek. Psalms 38:1 God has anger and hot displeasure for sin. Psalms 38:3 Not all sickness and unrest are the result of sin. However, health and peace can indeed be ill-effected because of sin. Faith and Humility

Faith and Humility

Faith And Humility Matthew 4:1-4 The temptation is to be self-dependent and self-reliant. He was enticed to meet his own need with his own provision. The bedrock of our relationship with God and taproot of true faith is humility. Exodus 16:1-36 Egypt was completely stripped of all that could provide food for Israel. The wilderness was barren and unable to provide. They had one source for nourishment -- God. Manna drained them of all self-sufficiency. Deuteronomy 8:1-20 Manna's design was to help Israel realize their true state which was absolute helplessness. God provides all in the physical realm; therefore also in every aspect of life. Self-sufficiency destroys our foundation and rots the taproot of faith. The functioning Christian who still gets by in life without the understanding of complete dependency upon God is usually destined to a faithless life. Matthew 4:1-4 Jesus, the perfect man, understood his complete and absolute dependency upon God. John 5:30 Jesus believed that he could do nothing of himself. Matthew 6:33 and 34; 9-11 Faith has to be lived one day at a time

Matthew 12:34 and 35 To have genuine faith we must evaluate what is in our lives and always be responsible for our actions.
